The Healing Tree is an 8 week Trauma Centered Therapy Group for Teens ages 15-19 using trauma focused, cognitive behavioral approach.

Referenced Materials:

  • Trauma Recovery Workbook for Teens: Deborah Vinall, PsyD, LMFT
  • Dealing with Trauma Workbook for Teens: Allison Hendricks, Judith A. Cohen, and Esther Deblinger
  • The Birth of the Trauma Tree: Nina Wilcox

If individuals are referred from an agency or specified provider, ROI’s will be required in order to share participant progress.

Each group participant will be assigned a creative project that they will have 7 weeks to complete. This should be submitted/shared with the Group during the final week of participation. Each participant will create their own Healing Tree. One side of the tree should show details that narrate their trauma, and the other side of the tree should be reflective of their healing and things they have gained/developed. The roots/foundation of the tree can be left to preference and creative license! Have fun and be YOU! (Clinician will offer examples)

Step 1: Call the office at 757-253-0111 and let us know you are interested in group therapy

Step 2: Complete a pre-screen with our administrative staff. Please note that some of the questions may be challenging to answer, but that is so we best understand how to support you.

Some examples of these questions are: Is there a history of any type of abuse, either physical, verbal, or sexual? If so, when did the abuse take place? Are you currently homeless or at risk of homelessness? Are you suicidal, have suicidal ideations/suicidal thoughts, or homicidal? Are you actively self harming or do you have a history of self harming? If so, when was the last time?

Step 3: Create your Valant (online client portal), complete your paperwork, and schedule an initial individual appointment with Ashinna. Your best interest is our top priority. This initial session is to ensure that you will not be retraumatized by a group setting. We are here to support you with individual therapy if that is the best environment for you.

Step 4: Attend the group sessions to create bonds and empower one another knowing that you are not alone.

Group therapy is offered in person at our Williamsburg and Hampton offices. Coming soon to Gloucester.
