Collecting stories of mental health and substance use journeys to break barriers for others and remove the stigma.
For over 50 years, we have served thousands of youth and their families through mental health and substance use treatment and prevention programs.
Since our origin, we have been trusted to collect stories of challenges, victories, and everything in between from our clients; but what about everyone else? What about every person in our community facing systemic obstacles, cultural stigma, financial barriers, family systems difficulties, or a lack of knowledge of resources? What happens to their stories?
As we continue to move forward in our next half century, we are amplifying the voices of those who faced mental health and substance use challenges in their adolescence and young adulthood, whether they were served by Bacon Street or not, giving them a platform to share their experience with the world. We are so grateful for these allies in our efforts to break down the stigma surrounding mental health and substance use.
Through Breaking Barriers, our hope is that it will encourage people to speak their truth and find peace in it, while opening the conversation for those who need greater support with their mental health. No one’s path is the same, but everyone’s story deserves to be told and respected.
